Although her mom is being a bit of a jerk here, I gotta give her points for one thing … she said “she” and not “he”, which shows she is at least comfortable or accepting (or both) of her son’s position. And that is an important core thing, methinks. The rest can be worked on.

Sam’s glasses look strange because they do not have any temples. It is also why they slide so far down her nose, that she looks over their lenses.
Is the broken pipe accessible? If it is, it can be fixed! I hate when it means moving appliances and cutting a hole in the wall!
