Technically, you’re correct. However, if Sam still has an “M” on her passport, it’s legal. Also, if memory serves correct, the Koseki system allows for a sort of “marriage by proxy” via a manipulation of the adoption laws, and the Shibuya district of Tokyo will now issue a “partnership” certificate, allowing the same rights to same sex couples as married couples, and it’s nationally recognized.
There is a law that lets a hermaphrodite she male or transgender person marry who they want I know I checked.
“She male” is offensive, and “hermaphrodite” is outdated. Please try to use the correct terminology when referring to someone. It’s quite analogous to referring to an African-American man as a n*****.
Joel, it’s good to know this. Would you mind filling those of us who sincerely want to learn and discuss these issues as to what terms would be more acceptable?
“She-male” is largely a marketing term within the sex industry; outside of that context, “transgender” works fine. “Hermaphrodite” in the biological sense isn’t a good match for what sometimes occurs in humans, so “intersex” is a better word.
On a related topic, I believe Sam and Terra both use the word “transgender”, which makes me wonder why the comic is titled “Mock Girl”, which seems like a slur. Other than Sam’s father, I don’t think anybody’s been had that sort of attitude towards her?

At least one of those, probably 2. The last update I read she was just starting a move to a new city. Mock Girl seems to run in fits-and-starts. Some of her other stuff pops up from time to time (See: My Other Pages) so I believe she’s *around* somewhere…
